Lotta's Fountain
This year was the 100 year anniversary of the SF earthquake and fire, April 18th, 1906. There is currently an extensive photographic retrospective at SFMOMA that I got to see today.
This water fountain on Market street was one of the few remaining structures still standing after the earthquake and fire.
It became a place where people gathered in the aftermath of the catastrophe, looking for information on family and friends they could not find.
Donated in 1835 by Lotta Crabtree.
