Just heard they are trying to save this surviving stairway which led many people to safety after the attacks on the World Trade Towers. This is the side view from Vesey Street.
Here is another view, again camera phone, so not very close-up. Apparently the stairway, which is understandably sacred to some, is in danger of demolition as the area is cleared for new construction. Seems to me it should be worked into the memorial somehow.
