Post move post: the other view from my desk.

As I turn from the window, I see the pile of reality next to me. I also see a big loft sale in my future.

Post move post: view from my desk!

Today was the day. A 7 1/2 hr ordeal. We have a LOT of stuff! The movers were great though. Movers not Shakers, and I would recommend them. Plus they have a groovy name. They were careful to put my furniture and boxes wherever I wanted them, including my desk in front of the window here. When I sat down to plug in the computer (FIRST task after moving of course), I looked out the window to this breathtaking view of Manhattan. OK my eyes zoom in on the skyline much better than my cameraphone does, but trust me, its breathtaking. I am going to love working here. I call this stage "infatuation".

Spring night in Union Square

View from my new williamsburg loft.

A lumberyard, graffitti, as a backdrop to the Hummer and Range Rover. Lots of texture in this nabe. A commentary on the gentrification of W'burg?

Loft Destruction

Hmmmm. I think this small high ceiling room needs some natural light. Time to break through the wall and grab some of that sunshine from the skylight next door.

dTourist is moving to Williamsburg! Brooklyn that is, one stop off of Manhattan.

First thing you need to find when you move is a good hardware store. I found this one on N 9st, 2 blocks from our new loft. Let the demolition begin! Posted by Picasa

The underground stock exchange tour

Just down the stairs from the trading floor . . .

. . . is where they keep the comfy shoes and swinging smocks.

Just down the hall from that is the women's comfort stop.

I bet you never thought you'd see the inside of the women's rest room at the NYSE, did ya? Just another stop on the dtour. Posted by Picasa

Cocktail Party at New York Stock Exchange

Wohoo! An only in New York opportunity - a cocktail party on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), as a utility company from the West Coast (CEO'd by my good friend which explains the invite) is publicly listed for the first time, after getting out from under the clutched of Enron. It's great fun watching someone you know ring the opening bell. How cool is that?

Yes, this proves it. We really are inside the NYSE. And we know how to get out.

No, these people are not buying and selling stock. They are raising a toast: "We're PGE, we're Enron free"!

Got a peek at the newest trading room, linked to the main floor by a corridor and ceremoniously labeled "the new room". Posted by Picasa

The segway "d"tour cont.

The repeating archways of an old train viaduct, still in use.

Which two are headed the correct way?

View of the reflecting pool (sans water) from the steps of the Rodin Museum. If you look close, you can see the back of "The Thinker" through the open gateway of the garden wall. Posted by Picasa

Segway: the only way to tour!

LOVE riding the segways! Here we are on Benjamin Franklin Parkway, where the tour started, learning how to glide.

Twin Feng Shui influenced buildings from the I.M. Pei firm
grace Philadelphia's skyline.

One of Weyland's wonderful whale murals.

In the tradition of the detourist, this seems to be the only photo of the very important new Cesar Pelli designed building. It has many different anlges, and presents a totally different outline from every side. Posted by Picasa

Inside the Bourse

One of the original commodities trading floors in the US., the Bourse is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved buildings in Philly. Wrought iron balustrades on the switchback stairs in the open atrium take you up as far as the third floor.

Looking up at the airy windowed atrium ceiling. The mezzanine levels were a place for visitors to watch the traders on the floor beneath. Posted by Picasa

Philadelphia LOVEs you!

The famous "LOVE" sign.

The old and the new. Hey nyc, here is an homage to your famous and favorite Chysler building

No city is complete without a giant clothes pin public art sculpture. Keep looking . . . yes, there it is, next to the tall building.
Look at this cute carriage puller. He is neck and neck with the Channel 3 news van. I'm rooting for the horse. Posted by Picasa
