Hood To Coast Relay cooldown

The icy waters of the Pacific Ocean cool you down quickly, as James and Greg find out. The coldness of the water really helps diminish muscle soreness that normally comes the next day.

John and Tyler take this to heart, and totally immerse themselves. Here they are drying off as the dip did not last long.

Looking back at the finish line and bandstand, set up for the beach party to follow tonight.

My favorite van decor. Notice the detail of the skull trim along the bummer . . . superb effort.
Yo ho ho, off to the beach we go! Posted by Picasa

End of the line

Believe me, a lot of us felt like doing this.Posted by Picasa

5:00pm htc Finish line

Yeah! The big finish.
Waiting for our second van of runners to come in so we can cross that finish line in the distance. Posted by Picasa

11:am htc Walt to Greg

Getting happy, one by one, as they finish their last leg of the 24 hour (actually 29 for us) relay. Posted by Picasa

10:00am htc Rocket Chocolate

Chocolate laced with caffeine, just the secret weapon needed for the third leg of the relay. I volunteer to be the guinea pig. Posted by Picasa

9:00am htc james handing off to walt?

The sky has cleared beautifully, and we are headed in to the wooded mountains. It`s going to be HOT for the second van this afternoon. Posted by Picasa

7:00am htc waiting for the other van`s last runner

The fog was beginning to lift a bit. No cell phone coverage for several hours through this part of the race, so we have to just sit and wait for the last runner from our other van to come in. Luckily, Sharon is up and ready to go an hour before he comes in. Posted by Picasa

6:00am rest area

A field of vans blooms at the major exchange point in Jewel, OR. We got a couple hours of very uncomfortable, cramped napping here, while we waited for the other van to finish their 6 legs and show up here. Posted by Picasa

Urban carwash

Look closely, and you'll see this guy is carefully directing the stream of water from a fire hydrant to wash his car.
