Tide pools of Wai'opae in Puna area of Hawaii

"There's a ship lies rigged and ready in the harorrbor . . ." Shipwreck off the coast of Kapoho, lava tidepools in the foreground. This was one helluva long drive fom Kailua Kona, our base camp, but about 30 miles from Hilo. Much less accessible to the masses than many other snorkeling spots, this place was thinly attended, and had the crystal clearest water of any place local tourist has snorkeled on the big island. Great coral reefs as well, with a few kinds of coral you don't find elsewhere on the island.
Type of parrot fish? Very colorful beautiful orange and green markings.

Butterfly fish with distinctive markings. Yellow is a popular underwater color this year.
Very large angel fish.

Thanks to my underwater photography prowess, I just caught this guy in the lower left hand corner of this photo. He is an eel and just his reddish head was poking out from the rocks, looking for dinner. (Click on any photo to enlarge)

Big school of small fish (lower edge of photo).

Think these are yellow tang.

How pretty are these little fish?
