Fall colors

Not everyone is wearing black and gray yet this fall.

Here we have orange pants and orange shoes, followed by a green and yellow track suit.

More orange, this time mixed with blue (and denim).

And of course, pink and brown with a bit of orange trim. What a snappy looking pup. Posted by Picasa

New Hybrid Taxis

A couple pics of the new Escape hybrid being used by a few NY cabbies in Manhattan.
On the scooter, I could not get a side shot in traffic, but they look very much like a '90's Jeep Cherokee. Posted by Picasa

Fame Becomes Me

Illegal photos from Martin Short's Broadway retrospective parody. Cameraphone photos in the dark, so you'll have to use your imagination. Above is the opening curtain.

Martin Short flying down from heaven. He is actually hanging midair in a Peter Panesque pose.

My favorite embodiment, Martin as Ed Grimley, one of his Saturday Night Live characters, was far too short.

Here he sits and sings atop the piano, which is played by one of the show's book writers. We were quite impressed by Martin Short's voice, which is amazingly strong, but often overshadowed by his humorous lyrics.

I failed to get a photo of Martin's celebrity guest this night, which was Gilbert Gottfried. He was hilarious in his spontaneous talk show style interview with Jiminy Glick, gettting huge roars of laughter with his quick comebacks.

Jcondo update, DUMBO NYC

Whew, its looking good. A lot of the windows are in, and it has a very substantial look to it, unlike Beacon Tower. We are relieved at how its turning out.

A close up of the top few floors.

Here is our corner, and the top concrete wedge that will be our balcony on the second floor down from the top. A year from now, we hope to be sitting out there watching the sunset. Posted by Picasa

Views from Manhattan Bridge

Looking north toward Williamsburg, bridge in the distance. That's the Domino Sugar Factory on the right. The cool old brick hulk with the smokestacks sits empty on the bank of the East River.

A closer view of the Williamsburg Bridge.

See that red brick building in the foreground? Look closely at the upper right corner of the rooftop. See that tiny white speck?

In a very New York moment, someone has found his way out of the maddening crowd to the quiet, unpopulated rootop. A grand view of the East River and Manhattan is spread out before him. Sweet. Posted by Picasa

German Viewer

As the dTourist blog readership spreads, we get a photo of one of our German viewers (yes, IN Germany) catching up on the photos of Alexander Reykjavik (on computer screen).

Derek Jeter at bat.

From the first at bat, the crowd was cheering "MVP, MVP" for Jeeter. Apparently they had an inkling of what was to come.

He went 5 for 5(!), with the last up being a home run in the bottom of the eighth. Sweet. Posted by Picasa

Go Yankees

Following Mayor Bloomberg and his entourage (they are somewhere ahead disappearing into the crowd) into Gate C of Yankee Stadium.

A real redneck at the Yankee/Tigers game.

Yankees are up! And now they are up by one game in the series with Detroit, after winning 8 to 4.

It could not have been a better night to
sit outside and watch baseball. An unusual October night with the tempeature in the 70's. Posted by Picasa

Cleaning out the firehouse

The firehouse on Wythe and N 8th has been closed for the last few months that I have been here, and today they were cleaning it out. Apparently it has sold. One of the long time neighbors suggested someone will probably turn it into a night club. The neighborhood is definitly changing

Tartan is here

Tartan plaid is in the fall fashion mags this year, and here is an early local sighting. Plaid dress with ruffle front bib, dark blue sweater layered over top, and lighter blue tights. The two diferent blue tones looked great with red and blue plaid of the dress.

Attack of the Skinny Jeans

Long and lean, these skinny jeans are all tucked into boots of various heights, on bodies that look great in this popular trend. Posted by Picasa

Street Fashion

Eye-catching shorts combo. Short shorts with black tights and what looks like over-the-knee boots, but is really knit leg warmers worn over black shoes or boots. Great style tip!

Notice the bag carried by the woman on the left. These two have just been to Beacon's Closet (in Williamsburg) a bastion of the more creative fashion set.

One more thing in this picture. A splendid skull and sword graphic on the black t-shirt across the street (on the right side of the photo). Posted by Picasa

Coffee Shop Fashion

Accessories can make the outfit. The girl on the left is wearing a simple black and white t-shirt/sweater combination with jeans, but she has added some amazing touches. A leopard print purse (you can see the handle between her knees) which echoes the pattern of what appear to be camoflauge print boots. She added super large gold hoops and oversize sunglasses to perfectly top off the look.

Next to her, gold ballet flats, and a turquoise say-something necklace make an all black outfit really stand out.

Another glimpse of the leopard purse to the right of her friend, the preppy punk. He has it all going on with a mix of styles including torn jeans, layered t's and pink and brown argyle sweater vest. Its such a great outfit that his hair is giving him a standing ovation. Posted by Picasa

Coolest Bag

( Remember when they used to be called purses?)

This bag was stunning in gold (a very hot accessory color this year) and black leather. It's by Sigerson Morrison, and it turns out this girl works there, so she has an in on their latest styles.

Also notice the great charms on her very long pendant style necklace. Cool accessorizing. Posted by Picasa

Fall Transitions

On the left, light skirt and top anchored with dark jacket, black boots over dark tights.

On the right, crocheted dress, with denim jacket over top, dark shoes and bag.

And in the middle, the ever popular pink, tutu skirted dress :) Posted by Picasa

sunday brunch styles

Green boots are in! These are very cool, Eupopean looking styles.

It was hard to capture the brilliant sparkle of this outfit. The skirt has gold lurex thread throughout, and the shirt has small sparkly flecks across front. The two pieces looked so perfect together, glinting in the autumn sun. Posted by Picasa
