Beads of paradise

Beads of paradise

Look, grass. Yes, real grass!

Iron fence frames a graffiti wall.

Look, grass. Yes, real grass! And its not a park. I watched dogs walk by and eye it longingly. On Metropolitan and Berry in Williamsburg.

SLAM: Streb Lab For Action Mechanics

Tucked away in an unassuming warehouse on a very quiet street in Williamsburg, I happened upon Streb SLAM.

It looks like many of the other old brick warehouses in the neighbor, except for the vibrantly painted door, but the interior has been transformed into a mad playhouse.

Inside. Learning the ropes at the circus skills/acrobatic/physical performance space that is Streb SLAM.

Rope is one of the circus skills they teach here, along with silks, static trapeze, trapeze, and tumbling.

The huge wheels you see in the background are part of the new Streb performance: Streb vs. Gravity,

which is currently touring. Click on the links for dates and times.

The really great thing about this place, is that anyone can sign up for classes and live out childhood (or adult) fantasies of learning Cirque du Soleil type skills.

Lost mitten

Got home and realized I had lost one of the two mittens I was carrying. Thought I would have to retrace my steps back down the stairs and down the block but there it was, peeking out from around the corner of the stairwell railing. These mittens have a great feature, a magnet in each wrist band that is supposed to hold them together when they are not on your hands. Apparently, on my way up the stairs, the mitten just reached out and grabbed the railing as I went by, waiting for someone else to cary it off again.

Curbed: Williamsburg Graffiti War Escalates, Dada Invoked

Curbed: Williamsburg Graffiti War Escalates, Dada Invoked

A short piece on the most recent antics of the grafix artists on North 6th in W'burg. Apparently, certain artists feel it is time for graffiti to evolve to the abstract phase.

Roebling and Metropolitan Graffiti

Corner of Roebling and Metropolitan. Thought this was an especially worthy street art corner.

New restaurant in the burg.

As seen in Daily Candy (click on link in title for full article). I walked by this place for weeks as they prepared it for opening. Had no clue as to what would be inside, or even when it opened. Just happened to catch the blurb one morning in DC email. Guess they are not counting on walk-in business.

New restaurant in the burg. Corner of N 6th and Wythe.

Can you see them?

Can you see them? Click to enlarge. If you look closely, you can see the Japanese tourists. They are always dressed a little trendier than the indigenous hipsters. This is on Driggs at about N 8Th street in Williamsburg.

Porn Film Appearance Today

Arriving home today, we found our local (as in, they live in our building) punk porn film company, Burning Angel, filming at the entryway. We were asked to be extras in a protest scene outside our building, and realizing what a great opportunity it would be for Alexander Reykjavik (first film credit), we immediately agreed.

G talking to "The Madame of Punk Porn" herself, Joanna.

The working title of the film is "Not Another Porn film", and it s a porn film parody of porn films. Derivative? Fun! You KNOW we will be buying a copy of the film.

The crew from our window. This view will also appear in the movie , as we, along with the other protesters, circle and chant on the sidewalk below, awaiting Joanna's exit from the building. Then we chase her down the street. Our neighbors will never view us in the same way. Reykjavik thought it was great fun!

Definitely a "dTour" to our day, and another reason why you should always have that porn film screen name ready.
